BOOKS ON ARCHITECTURE
The Della architettura… libri dieci (1590-1) which had a great editorial success was reprinted right away with a distinct frontispiece and it was augmented with an appendix on the solar clocks of Fra Bernardino Stramegioli. The last eight lines of the word to the reader were replaced by the justification of the reprint and an appendix on clocks (“Hora vedendo l’aura…, ci siamo risolti tornarli a ristampare con l’aggiunta del modo di fabricar la bilancia posta nel decimo a carte 139. […], & una pratica facilissima di fabricar gl’Orologi Solari […], & un Orologio da acqua cavato da Orontio Fineo, con le loro figure. […]. The errata of the first edition were not taken into account with the exception of only one correction (p. 91) ; the text was entirely recomposed. A few plates were replaced by others done by Rusconi (tree, p. 41, galley, p. 139) or borrowed like the ones of the caryatids from Barbaro’s Vitruve p. 4). In 1660 the book in this second version was reprinted in Venice by Francesco Nicolini. Frédérique Lemerle (CNRS, CESR, Tours) – 2023 A.
