Soon after the Vitruvius was published in 1543 under the name of Hermann Ryff in Strasbourg, the master printer Georg Messerschmidt published a second version of it, replacing Ryff’s dedication (“Clarissimo et optimo Viro D. Hieronymo Bomgartnero Senatori Noribergensi. Gualtherus H. Ryff. Argent. Medicus. S. D.”) with his own (“Georgius Machæropiœus Typographus ad lectorem”).
