BOOKS ON ARCHITECTURE
The second edition of the English translation of Roland Fréart de Chambray’s Parallèle was published in two parts, with a separate title for each one (Riba 1135). The Parallel is the subject of the first part ; the second part consists of Evelyn’s essay (“An account of architects and architecture...” ) and his translation of Alberti’s treatise (Della Statua). Coming out shortly after Evelyn’s death (February 27, 1706) this edition took into account the extensive additions which he had brought to his essay in the light of Desgodetz’s Édifices antiques de Rome (Paris, 1682).
