BOOKS ON ARCHITECTURE
This edition was published without a date at “à l’Espérance” under the name “P. Mariette”. It can be attributed to Pierre I (1603-1657) who became the half owner of the Rose blanche couronnée at the death of his brother-in-law Michel van Lochom, or it can more likely be attributed to Pierre II (1634-1716), to whom Pierre I had sold his collection in 1657. Pierre van Lochom probably published the first edition of Boillot without place of publication or date in the 17th century at the presses of the Rose blanche couronnée. This edition repeats 51 of Boillot’s 55 original plates, reengraved on copper and inverted. The “wild bull”, the second billy goat and the last two animals, the monkey-fox (“simivulpa”) and the monkey, are lacking. The texts, entirely engraved, copy the original version rather faithfully, like the edition also without date by Balthazar Moncornet, later than 1560, the date at which Moncornet bought engraved plates for 3000 livres from Michel van Lochom’s widow.
