Remarks

Tradition has it that the chief of the Eduens, Julius Sacrovir, committed suicide in this villa after being defeated in 21 AD. The passage cited is from Ladone's annotated poem on the subject of Autun's antiquities

« Hujus autem villæ Sacrovirianæ, quam a Romanis exustam fuisse memorat Tacitus [An., III, 43-46] clara indicia etiamnunc extant, ingentes scilicet effossi lapides laceri atque semiusti, & in quibus agnoscas veteris vestigia flammæ. »
