| Remarks | The 'Tour de Jouère' was identified in the 19th century as either a temple dedicated to Jupiter or as the 'Palais' (Dejussieu 1846, p. 62 ; Fontenay 1889, pp. 128-129). The ruins of the tower are visible on the a href="http://architectura.cesr.univ-tours.fr/GalliaRomana/notice.asp?param=en&numfiche=117" target="_blank">1575 plan : they appear as a semi-circle in front of which there is an aqueduct (Belleforest 1575). The manuscript of the author known by the name of Anfert was probably sold by H. de Fontenay's heirs in 1940; its current location is unknown |

« On rencontre une masure, allant du portail saint-André à celui de Saint-Andoche, demi-rond, élevé, que le vulgaire nomme Jouère ou le temple de Jupiter, auquel on remarque les entrées du côté du levant. Il étoit environné d’une ancienne muraille distante de dix pieds du temple ; l’autre demi-rond est détruit. Tout autour on a découvert plusieurs fondemens et ruines de murailles ou de pierres d’une grandeur excessive avec des caveaux souterrains et des chambrettes profondes voûtées, jointes les unes aux autres. On dit que c’est un théâtre. » |
