« Propinquus fons est, lacus tamen habens faciem magis, quam fontis. Fontem Dianæ sunt qui appellent : alii lavacrum Vestalium fuisse opinantur. Sunt qui aquas ejus per meatus subterraneos ex Gardo huc penetrare credant. »
= “Very close by is a spring, which forms a large pool. Some call it the 'Spring of Diana', others believe it to the be bath of the Vestals. The water is believed to come from the Gard River by way of an underground conduit.”
