| Remarks | These fragments of frieze decorated with eagles observed in the area east of the amphitheatre, on the site occupied by the ancient tribunal and, later, by the prison and the court of justice, were part of the late Roman or early medieval ramparts, which were probably built to reinforce the fortress provided by the amphitheatre |

« En la maison d’Arnauld Aguillonet, et en la maison de Arisson et jardin du seigneur de Brignon, y a plusieurs aigles que lon diroit toutes auoir esté faictes ou moulées à un mole, et ie croy qu’elles, ou la plus part, ont esté pries de quelque frize d’edifice haultain, qui estoit ainsi ordonné à aigles et demoly comme les autres. Surquoy lon se pourroit esbahir que nullle d’icelles n’a point de teste, et à quelle occasion ça esté faict et par qui. » |
