| Remarks | The existence of a temple dedicated to the Roman triad, Jupiter, Juno and Minerva is attested by St Saturnin's Passion (5th century). The 'Capitol' is probably the temple of the forum, the foundations of the podium which were found under the 'Place Esquirol' in 1998. It is possible that the vestiges evoked by Duchesne were those of the 'Château Narbonnais' and the 'Porte Narbonnaise' destroyed in the middle of the 16th century |

« Les plus belles decorations qu’ils y ayent fait construire ont esté l’Amphitheatre & le Capitole, mais particulierement le Capitole (duquel on dit que sainct Saturnin fut precipité) si peu commun en leurs Prouinces, qu’on ne trouue point chez les anciens qu’ils en ayent iamais fait bastir qu’en trois villes, sçauoir est Thoulouse, Narbonne, & Carthage la Neuue, & tous encore auiourd’huy ruinez par la caducité des temps : si l’on ne veut dire que celuy de Thoulouse est representé par ce Chasteau rond qui se void pres de l’Inquisition. » |
