« Dentro in la terra si vede un pezzo della muraglia antica e un tempio non molto grande, e una sepoltura (secondo il giudicio moi) molto bella. È questa sepoltura una fabrica quadrata, ma più longa che larga, fatta con bonissimi e grossissimi fondamenti di pietre fortissime, sopra li quali vi sono per il longo sette spazii tra colonne striate altissimi e bellissimi ; e per il largo, cinque. Sopra le colonne vi è il suo archiotrave ; e sopra l’architrave tanti volti, non molto alti, quanto i spazii tra le colonne di sotto. In mezzo d’ogniuno di questi volti, sono le sue pile quadre che vengono sopra le grande di sotto ; e in ogn’una vi è una figura di mezzo rilevo, sì della parte di dentro come di fuora. In cima [20] di tutta l’opera è finita con il suo cornisone. Il piano che è abbraciato in mezzo di tutta questa fabrica mostra ch’era saleggiato di pietre grandi, delle quali ancor vi resta qualch’una ; e sotto vi è un volto che di sotto terra va a torno a tutta questa fabrica, nel qual par quasi segno che se vi intrava per una scala per il piano di sopra. Pur si poteva anco forsi intrare per qualche porta da qualche parte, per esser tutta la fabrica (ancor che il volto sia sotto il piano) fondata però sopra terra. Questo volto ha alcuni balconeti che li dan luce ; e lì de sotto penso io che si mettevan le urne e le cenere di quelli de chi era la sepoltora. »
