« Quorum notata a me sunt quatuor : I Quadratorum murorum Burdigalæ Ausonianæ reliquiæ II Rudera insignis Amphitheatri extra urbem III Stantes adhuc columnæ ædificii, quod hodie [22] Palatium Tutelæ vocatur, intra urbem quidem præsentem, sed extra veterem Ausonii IV Marmora & lapides antiqui ex terra haut ita pridem eruti : tum balnearum vestigia sub terræ cumulis inventa. »
= “For me, there are four noteworthy things: 1) The square walls, remains of the Bordeaux described by Ausonius; 2) The ruins of the amphitheatre situated outside the town; 3) the columns, still standing, of the building known today as the 'Palace of Tutela', now located within the town, though it was without in Ausonius' time; 4) Numerous marble and stone antiquities which long lay buried, but have now been excavated, such as the remains of the baths, discovered under heaps of earth.”
