« Et in circuitu Viennæ quinque Romanorum legiones totidem castra extruxerunt, […] adhuc ex illis extat unum forte et superbum, quod Viennenses nunc Pupetum vocant, et est in colle arte hominum facto magna excelsitudine et inaudita compositione, civitatique superminet. »
= “And around Vienne, five Roman legions constructed an equal number of camps […]. Of these camps, there remains only one fine and strong part that the people of Vienne call the 'Fort Pipet'. It stands upon a very high upon an artificial hill, is exceptionally solid and dominates the whole town.”
