Transcription « Portas item, veteres & novas : earum nomina & inscriptiones dabimus. Veteres construxit Maximianus qui à Diocletiano eò missus, duas ex quadrato lapide ita posuit, ut antiquitas eas non perdiderit. » = “We shall give the names and inscriptions of the old and new gates. The old ones were built by Maximian, who was sent here by Diocletian; there are two, constructed with stone blocks which remain untouched by time.”
