Remarks	Rivail's account of the Roman remains visible in the first third of the 16^th century is apparently unknown to modern archaeologists (Buisson 1990, p. 42)

Transcription “Et recta fere linea, longo satis intervallo, sequitur Bellisium, nunc episcopatum regionis habens, et est in planitie citra rupeculas versus Rhodanum pendentes, et multis tum ædificiis, tum inscriptio[163]nibus romanis adornatur.” = “Travelling in a straight line, one comes, after some time, to Belley, seat of the bishopric of the surrounding regions. It is situated in the plain, this side of the rocks that fall away towards the Rhone, and is embellished with many Roman edifices, on which one finds inscriptions.”
