Belleforest alludes here to two triumphal arches which had been incorporated into the city walls as gateways and were known as the 'Porte Romaine' and the 'Arc de Longe-Porte'

« De ce conflit [opposant Romains aux Germains] en (sic) voit encore les marques a Langres en certains arcs tryomphaux, les restes desquels sont és murailles de la ville, servant de Trophee de ceste victoire, comme aussi vous voyez des statues de chevaux, lyons, & hommes, qui ressentans leur œuvre d’antiquité, rendent aussi tesmoignage de ceste bataille. »
