BOOKS ON ARCHITECTUREManuscripts or prints published in France,
|
A data base of books on architecture manuscripts and prints published in France, written in French or translated into French during the 16th and 17th centuries, it consists of general treatises, treatises on fortifications, collections of models (châteaux, private mansions, houses), books of ornamentation (dormers, fireplaces, fountains, garden follies and pagodas), technical treatises (perspective, carpentry, stereotomy, greenhouses, gardens), treatises on fortifications and military atlases, and accounts of ceremonial entries. Access to the works takes two forms: consultation in image format (JPEG), or downloading the text transcribed in PDF format (spelling and punctuation modernised). Each entry consists of a bibliographical note compiled by specialists in the institutions owning the work and a scientific description drafted by the best French and foreign specialists. Each description is brought up to date regularly. A critical bibliography follows every one.
This data base is being developed jointly with Le livre d'architecture program carried out within the Institut National d'Histoire de l'Art. It is progressively scanning and putting on line books from the Centre d’Études Supérieures de la Renaissance and from the Bibliothèque Universitaire de Tours (fonds Brunot) and the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Tours, from the libraries of the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts (Paris), the Institut National d’Histoire de l’Art (Paris) and the Bibliothèque d’étude et de conservation de Besançon. The directors are grateful to those responsible for authorising limited inclusion of some works from various institutions (Bibliothèque royale de Belgique, Bibliothèque municipale de Dijon, Bibliothèque municipale de Rouen).
